It’s not that hard.

@jarrod 100% this! I think you put it really well and in a relateable way also. We accept things and people being renamed all the time without comment or fuss.

@lewism Thanks! I felt a bit uncomfortable writing about this, but couldn’t get it out of my head. So I’m glad that at least one other person is with me on it.

@jarrod I would hope a post about extending some basic kindness to everyone equally would go down well everywhere but am not that naive. However there is a reason I am on micro.blog rather than some other places……

@jarrod I make an exception for Twitter coz I am never calling that other name. But then you said, people. So I agree.

@pratik I mean, that's one of my points. I think if we make exceptions for the things (or people) we don't like, then we lose the thread of why it's important to do in the first place. And nobody benefits.

@jarrod I see your point and agree. But there's may be a difference between people and entities coz of agency.

@pratik That’s fair. Companies are made up of people, and I’d feel more comfortable with the brand change knowing it was carefully considered group decision rather than at the erratic whim of one person. But, ultimately, X belongs to Elon Musk and he can and does do what he wants with it. Much to our chagrin. 🤷‍♂️

@jarrod Yes, can't stop someone who owns the company from changing its name. People whom we admired or loved who worked there may have even left. Also, recently, we have been slapping our foreheads at the ruling Hindu nationalist party trying to rename India.
