Version 1.0 of the ‘Open Threads App’ shortcut has been released! Get it here from the HeyDingus Shortcuts Library.

The first in a series of Threads shortcuts (stay tuned), this is a simple flow that opens the Threads app if run from an iPhone or iPad. It’s best used as a step in another shortcut.

@gr36 This is a popular updater on RoutineHub (I’ve never tried it, can’t vouch for it), but I’ve never liked the idea of a third-party update mechanism. If Apple were to provide one, sure, but I think these kinds of systems junk up the interface, and discourage folks from diving in and learning how the shortcut works lest they mess it up.

@gr36 I’m partial to just providing an update URL that hopefully they’ll see if they looking inside the shortcut if it ever stops working right for them. And if it’s working right, they shouldn’t feel the need to update it anyway!

@gr36 Ah, yes, that would be nice. You might take a look through @viticci’s Apple Frames shortcut. I‘m pretty sure he worked out a way to download a file from the MacStories CDN to update the frame images without requiring a shortcut update. And that, in turn, lives on the user’s device so it’s not pinging the network every time. Could be a solution hiding in there.
