I see my preferred podcast app, Stitcher, is folding later this summer. What other podcast services are folks into these days? I also use the Apple Podcast app, but its UI is…about as good as iTunes.
@ablerism I concur with the Overcast votes. I’m a heavy podcast consumer and I appreciate the setting to speed them up and skip silences in the conversation.
@ablerism I have an Android phone so Overcast is not available to me. But I have used PocketCasts for years and been happy with it. They have an iOS app, desktop apps, and a decent web player.
@ablerism I really liked Pocket Casts. Its UI made the most sense to me as any app. However, the integration of Apple’s Podcasts app is just too convenient. I’ve heard that some of the frustrations I have with the Podcasts app may be addressed in iOS 17 when it is released this fall. We will see.
Overcast, by the way, is an excellent app. It just doesn’t work the way my brain works so despite trying it a few times, for a few weeks at a time, it never sticks.
@ablerism Overcast works really well for me. I have one single complaint about it: the universal setting for automatically starting a new episode when one finishes (or not). I’d like to have the setting On for one playlist and off for the others.
@ablerism I used Overcast for years so I’m glad to see it’s still popular in other replies! It’s a good option. I’ve been using Castro for a while now, which I like because I don’t listen to every episode of every podcast, and its separation of inbox (new episodes) from queue (episodes I actually want to listen to) is perfect for me. You can also add individual eps of a show to your queue without subscribing to it, which I like a lot.
@faithx5 I’ve been doing this a lot with Overcast lately, too. Adding individual episodes to my Queue without subscribing, that is.
@jarrod Oh, that’s cool that Overcast has that! I don’t know if they did years ago - or I do think I had swapped back to Apple in between due to Overcast having loading issues on my phone, so maybe I hadn’t needed that feature yet. I’m sure they’ve fixed all that now.
