Hard to disagree with this. If only he’d been on the ballot

@adders Sometimes I envy US voters their option of writing-in someone who isn’t on the ballot paper.

@artkavanagh One of my universities had a “reopen nominations” on the ballot for student union elections. I would happily have ticked that this time.

@adders @artkavanagh I used RON to prompt one of my sporadic attempts at blogging yesterday. This was an election that was crying out for RON.

@jamescousins As you say, without RON, a tactical vote was the only way. I’ve long said that first-past-the-post makes tactical voting necessary, Unfortunately, the voters remain unpersuaded. Both Luciana Berger and Chuka Umunna, running for the LibDems, lost to Conservatives by a margin less than the Labour vote. Understandable (given that both of these candidates were seen by Labour voters as defectors from their party) but unfortunate.

@artkavanagh I’ve become absolutely convinced of the need for electoral reform: FPTP is part of the problem of polarisation, it works as a system when it’s populated by grown-ups but we have moved a long way past that now.
