Still have another year of discounted 1Password to go, but now looking at Bitwarden again, for when the time comes. I’ve been enjoying 1P for a long time but, when the subscription has to be paid in full, I might move to Bitwarden.

@maique I am currently testing Bitwarden and Stongbox for this reason and to allow local storage instead

@maique If you’re fully in the Apple ecosystem, I can strongly recommend iCloud Keychain. Excellent security, its TOTP support is flawless, and passkeys will be a game changer.

@maique Do you use Shared Vaults with your wife?

@pimoore I keep hoping Apple does shared vaults, but I don't think they will. At the very least, I wish they would open the method for auto-filling TOTP codes via the keyboard to other password apps. Cut/Past is so clunky.

@pimoore I’d probably go all-in on Keychain if it included a family sharing-like feature, unless something like that was added I don’t know about.

@pratik I do, yes. And she’s using them on a Windows computer, from work.

@jakelacaze Signed up, to be able to test it properly, but found a dealbreaker quite soon. Pdf files are not displayed, instead downloaded. I use that on 1P. Asked about it to the developer, was directed to a discussion board, and found out it’s not really a priority, as people have been asking for it for over 5 years.

@jakelacaze They do, pretty much the same as 1Password. You have 1GB to store files when you upgrade your account.

You can have files attached to certain notes. It's handy, you can add photos of documents (ID, drivers license, insurance stuff, health, car)... I use it a lot.

On 1P the file will just display inline, which is nice when you have to show it to someone, or just check something. Bitwarden will ask to save the file, which I (and seemingly many others) think it's just silly. I'd have to download the file, open it with the appropriate app, check what I want to check, delete the file from the app, and be done. A ton of steps that make no sense. More so if there's sensitive information, and files get thrown around by the sync engines of those apps.

In the end I would love to have Bitwarden behave like 1P in this matter: add a file, and check it inside the app.

@maique Yup. Same here. Is BitWarden cross-platform?

@pratik It is, yes. Mac, Linux, Windows, and extensions for a ton of browsers, as well as CLI.

@jaheppler Unfortunately it doesn’t yet, though I still think it’s only a matter of time before Apple implements the feature. They already have family sharing for other services, so I can’t see why passwords couldn’t be part of that.

@pimoore Agreed — I’d be shocked if they’re not already working on it.
