Here’s something I learned by posting a cover of the guitar solo for Pink Floyd’s Money and seeing this copyright claim:

  1. The copyright claim is by Roger Waters and not Pink Floyd
  2. Roger is actually his middle name. His first name is George, which I never knew. Shame on me.

@jacob I learned a lot of the story of Roger Waters' royalties and his conflict with Pink Floyd in All 165 Pink Floyd Songs, Ranked From Worst to Best as well as some other interesting trivia. For example, Stanley Kubrick wanted Pink Floyd to do the soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange and Waters passed on it.

@oroboros Wow, that was an interesting read. If only for the author's biting remarks on most of the tracks in the first 100 or so positions. I disagree with some of them (mostly with the Animals album and even Atom Heart Mother, which I both like) but I can see his point in most of these. Thank you for pointing me to it.

@jacob Agreed completely about Animals and Atom Heart Mother - both are excellent.

I don't think I'd be able to compile such a list of my own rankings. There's too much to like. I even had a serious phase of The Final Cut in high school that's now seeped in nostalgia.

@oroboros same here regarding the Final Cut. Really, I didn’t care about how Water’s vocals sound. For me it wasn’t bad, it was just Pink Floyd’s sound. Yes, the musicians aren’t technical but I admire their ability to create sounds and atmosphere and not rush things.

@oroboros your bio line “Time is not Money” is not about Dark Side of the Moon, though, right :-)

@jacob No, it isn't. I'd never thought about the connection, but perhaps there is a subconscious influence to it...

@jacob @oroboros I have always loved Final Cut. The more self-indulgent Waters gets the more I like him. Animals is another favorite.
