You know, I’m a really big Iron Maiden fan, but even I have to admit that “Quest For Fire” is a pretty dumb song. The opening line about a time when dinosaurs walked the earth immediately makes me think of Spinal Tap.

@petebrown Yes the lyrics there in the beginning is dumb. I agree.
But I think the song has some really great parts to it.
Nevertheless, if you are able to catch them live soon, I was blown away this summer with how good they were.
@furstenberg I’m hoping to! They haven’t announced any US dates past the Power Trio festival in October, though. Last time I saw them was in 2000, when they were touring for Brave New World.
@petebrown I think they peaked as a band around Somewhere in Time, although the earlier albums are even better IMO.
@odd I agree that was the last good album of their classic run, but I’ve been really happy with pretty much everything they’ve put out since Bruce rejoined the band. I’ve found the last two albums to be particularly stellar.
@petebrown @furstenberg First time I saw them was on their tour for "Number of the Beast" when they opened for Judas Priest. 1982, I think. I don't remember paying any attention to lyrics :)
@petebrown I’ve been lucky enough to see them every tour since 2006.
They just keep getting better for me.
@petebrown @odd Yeah everything since Bruce joined again with Brave New World has been good in my book.
Some of the songs are better live than on the albums though.
@jack I was only 13 that year, but it’s my favorite year metal-wise. It happened to be the year I started listening to hard rock and heavy metal as well. Live Vengeance is so good.
@petebrown it was an homage to Quest For Fire … The movie … which itself had very little meaningful dialogue and still met with critical success … the ‘little meaningful dialogue’ part is key …. 🤣
I guess if you ignore the lyrics you have a song that does the same (met with critical success).
