Not renewing Apple Music. Going back to my local library, with possible sharing if there is a good enough service (I have an iTunes Match sub at the minute).

My primary tactic is to save up for a good file player, probably from Sony, and no longer rely on the internet.

@simonwoods I’ve been heading in the opposite direction (away from local files). I have a FiiO M9 that I’m looking to sell if you’re interested in something like that.

@jack Ohhhh nice! If you’re still looking to sell when I can afford to do so, I’ll happily take you up on that offer.

@frostedechoes I definitely have a growing urge to further distance myself from the always on, always connected side of technology. There’s something so peaceful about limited but functional machines; it’s clear and obvious… just freeing.

@simonwoods I’ll be curious to hear about what player you choose. I’ve been using this little thing and getting most of my music from Bandcamp and Amazon (direct MP3 purchases).

@frostedechoes I used MD from 1999 - 2003 - loved them. I wish I never got rid of them. I had tons of music on them. I might go back to that :)

@wearsmanyhats @simonwoods I wish itunes was better or where I could get rid of the redesign. Oddly, do you remember a time when having all of the meta data was a thing. You could make smart lists for days based on all sorts of combinations using the meta tags. With Apple Music - all of these tags are there already and there is no encouragement or even access on IOS to make a smart playlist. They want to tell you what to listen to vs you exploring your own music. I hate it.

@Cheri Ooh great idea. I just did an equivalent search and there are all sorts of options. I’ll post back when I’ve chosen one… actually, having a dedicated device for limited listening is worth trying out. 🤔

@wearsmanyhats @terrygrier It’s really come to something when iTunes for Windows was better than this mess. It’s like they fired all of the engineers who were able to work on local library management.
