Marcus Aurelius wrote a journal. He ended up with a life-changing book about how to become a better person and live a better life. I also keep a journal, but it’s mostly navel gazing and fountain pen tests. 🤷‍

@jack It is not unlikely that he maintained some kind of journal for most of his life, and meditations are just a result of what he wrote over his final 19 years.

@jack journaling is useful to most who do it, sometimes to a broader audience, Marcus Aurelius seems a high bar to set… but i am with you, i always want my production to be worth more than it is… the epoch we live in?

@jack But many years from now, when it is discovered that world peace can only be achieved by just the right ink color and nib grind, your legacy will be secured.

@jack Running out of pages in my current journal. Been writing every day for over a year. This notebook lasted a tad over six months. I haven’t reached Marcus Aurelius heights in my prose. But I’m satisfied so far.

@patrickrhone This may be scandalous to some here, but I think I just might have enough pens and ink now. I admit to getting a ridiculous amount of joy using them. But it’s time to call it quits on new acquisitions.

@hjertnes So what you’re saying is, once my journal entries start saying something of universal and lasting significance, I’ll be dead in 20 years?

@sgtstretch “Quits” is madness. But pausing? That may make sense. I do that from time to time.

@sgtstretch @philipbrewer I haven’t bought a new bottle of ink in I think 2 years, or a pen in nearly that long. I have 4 bottles of a new (to me) ink arriving today for use in the new pen I got last week. Looks like the moratorium is over :)

@jack @sgtstretch @philipbrewer I haven’t bought any fountain pen or ink in years, mainly because flying with them is a major hassle for me. I’ve purchased a bunch of machines ballpoint and gel/rollerball pens.

@jmreekes That makes sense. Although I’ve heard that one of the benefits of the Pilot’s vacuum filler is that the ink chamber is isolated and “sealed” so they are safe to fly with. I’ve never done it myself, though.
