I didn’t have this on my radar. John Irving might be my favorite author. I just love his style. The Last Chairlift is definitely going on top of my queue! 📚

@hutaffe He is one of my favorites as well. And I have not read any of his books in too long.
Have you read Richard Russo? I think of the two of them as being very similar, even though they are writing at different ends of the social class hierarchy.
@MitchW oh, never heard of him before! Looks like good „American“ literature. Maybe it didn’t get over here because of that. I think Irving is mostly known here because of The Cider House Rules and The Hotel New Hampshire. Without those, people in Germany/Europe might not know him. Garp is one of favorite books of all time. Any recommendation about where to start with Russo?
@hutaffe Where to start with Russo: “Empire Falls” is probably his best known novel. It won a Pulitzer Prize, and was made into an excellent HBO miniseries that costarred Paul Newman in his last role. But I prefer “Nobody’s Fool,” and the sequel, “Everybody’s Fool.” “Nobody’s Fool” was a terrific movie, also starring Paul Newman.
Where are you based?
@MitchW I live in Germany. I checked those books and the seem to be right in my wheelhouse 🙂 Will out them on my ever growing list as well 👍
