This article about Google’s new patents is incredibly terrifying. It talks about using smart home devices to determine what we are doing throughout our days. What devices you use in your home is important.

@EddieHinkle that’s ridiculous. How do people think this is leading to a better future for anyone?

@chet Yeah I’ve been using hosted Gmail for my email for years but I think this is getting far enough to encourage me to jump ship. I probably need to make a list of all the things I need to replace to be able to leave gmail and google apps.

@EddieHinkle I would never want to live in this home -- its extremely creepy. Wish it stays limited to patent. Google keeps stretching the creepy line, assuming the convinience of what their services offer will win users over.

I am a lot worried with this - "would make all types of inferences about users, sorting them into categories". Especially given that it can't even serve videos that would interest me on YouTube :P

@EddieHinkle ProtonMail is 50% off right now. I've been using it as my main email for several months now. I still have a Gmail account, but I've moved almost everything over. Honestly, it wasn't as painful as I thought it would be.

@amit Google is a drug dealer - offers something but at a high personal cost in the long term.
