@pratik my only big gripe with micro.blog is the lack of a real discover feed. Something that gets updated more than once a week. I'd like to see at least a live feed of everything being posted, kinda like the Local and Federated timelines on Mastodon
@pratik I started following people from Mastodon using my micro.blog account but it’s been painful and I regret the decision, mostly because of the subpar TL experience.
@grubz I've seen the discussion around the Discover feed but I'm less worried about it. I check it occasionally. For now, I find enough people via Mastodon
@pratik the beta for the new Reeder might be what you are looking for from a reading perspective. I just started giving it another shot and am loving the polished feed of having all my mastodon, micro.blog, and rss feeds together. Only downside is not being able to reply.
@humdrum I don’t have access to it but from what I read, it seemed like a read-it-later or social bookmarks service. No? The ability to not being able to reply or comment within app is what, I think, drove people from RSS feeds to social media.
@crossingthethreshold no idea... it feels pretty good to me right now and they are up to v0.9 now. So soon-ish maybe? It does look like it'll be a subscription @ $10 USD/yr.
@pratik no, it's going to be more along the lines of what I think Tapestry is. There's a way to send links to it, but I think it's more tailored to all the various feeds you can have: RSS, Mastodon, Micro.blog, Podcasts, YouTube, Bluesky, Glass, Flickr, Reddit, and Comic Strips (from gocomics and comicskingdom) are all currently options.
@humdrum Interesting. I have Tapestry but haven’t quite gotten into it yet. The hard part is including the replies/mentions. Otherwise it’s a feed reader.
@pratik Hard agree! I think Micro.blog is a fantastic place to host my blog — but I stay away from the tools as much as possible. I publish from Ulysses, write there or in Paper, and don’t like any parts of the MB app or website. 😕 The gulf up to Mastodon is immense.
FWIW you can hide metrics on the timeline on Mona,if it helps. (I’d add a screenshot — but for some reason I can’t add images in replies in the MB app. 🤷🏻♂️)
I think you’d like the new Reeder! You can set up default apps for Reddit, Mastodon and Micro.blog, so you easily can reply in the corresponding app.
@humdrum Thank you. From what I am hearing it sounds similar to the idea behind Tapestry - a feed of RSS feeds and social media?
@crossingthethreshold exactly. RSS, Mastodon, Micro.blog, Podcasts, YouTube, Bluesky, Glass, Flickr, Reddit, and Comic Strips (from gocomics and comicskingdom) are all currently options.
@pratik Great points. One thing I really liked about Twitter's timeline was each tweet took up about the same amount of space, so it was easy to skim updates and not get hung up on one long post or a bunch of photos. That's what I prefer in a timeline--easily digestible updates. And then link out to a full post or additional info.
@MitchW Yeah, those tools are great! However, I usually don’t cross post to Mastodon, as I instead boost my blog posts, and then later write a post with some excerpt, etc.
So I don’t use it for micro-posts, really.
@Havn A good system. Whereas I am primarily a microblogger and linkblogger and I use MB's cross-posting tools extensively.
@pratik Reeder is out! apps.apple.com/us/app/re...
