@news will this affect one’s RSS feed, so it can still get that oh-so-handy @sod plugin treatment?

@news it’s seems like News and Help don’t often receive responses to replies, but Manton does. Is this expected behavior?

Do you prefer we @ people instead of official channels?

@toddgrotenhuis Help should respond to Qs but Manton had mentioned that News might be a one-way broadcast

@toddgrotenhuis Are you asking about users' timeline feeds, like https://micro.blog/feeds/toddgrotenhuis.json? If so, yes, they are identical to what you see in the web client, so if you mute a word, that will affect your timeline JSON Feed.

@news Wanted to say that it's been about 3 weeks now since this was implemented and I blocked a couple of words to do with the US Election. My Timeline has been so much 'smoother' and more pleasant. It's had a noticeable effect for me, so thank you again!

@Miraz Let me know if I can use any keywords to help you block those posts. As a non-American, I can totally see how you may not be interested. I'm using the 🗳️so hopefully, Micro.blog can also let you use tagmojis in the block feature.

@pratik Thanks, that's considerate. I just blocked a couple of well-known names and it does the job superbly. While the results of the US election are very significant for the whole world, the day-to-day inner workings of the lead-up aren't interesting to me, given I have no vote anyway. 😁

@Miraz No worries. I guess for the rest of the world, Sep-Nov might be better to stay updated on. But please write about the politics in NZ (if you want) otherwise, we wouldn't have known much about Jacinda Ardern 😀

@pratik Maybe, but politics generally drives me crazy and I'm poorly informed. A simple recitation of misdeeds doesn't achieve anything useful.

@pratik without looking it up .. do you know who the current pm of NZ is .. I think people forget the awareness the world had of this country because of her.

@JohnPhilpin Yup. I don’t. But I know the government is more right wing than its predecessor. Either your country’s leaders are in the news for great reasons or very bad reasons. U.S. may be an exception due to its outsized impact on the world. Personally, I prefer if policies make news and not politicians or even politics but that’s how the work gets done, like it or not.

@Ddanielson @Miraz Politics is different from other things you like or don’t like (sports, movies, tech, etc.) It affects you even if you don’t like politics. And like it or not, it’s a process more than a thing. As the saying goes, evil triumphs when good men (people) do nothing.

without perhaps coloring our days with anger.

I'm trying to do less outrage blogging, which is most political blogging. Please feel free to nudge me if I'm doing this more often

@pratik @Ddanielson My writing something on my blog about the latest dumb move by our 'leaders' won't achieve anything though. Taking some action somehow has the potential to change things. OTOH, on my hyperlocal news blog I've written some opinions on a matter of keen local interest and some folks have found my comments have helped in their own thinking. I guess, as always, it depends on audience and scope.
