@hollyhoneychurch That's wonderful - your getting such a bloom of roses (and others). When we go to the Cape (Cape Cod), I love to see them. They grow so beautifully there. Which kind smell like grapefruit? I'm intrigued.

@NellKate Wow, it's great when there's a special magical place for roses : ) They're everywhere in England at the moment. My favourite thing to do along the street is to smell them, over the walls, of people's gardens. It can be a long walk! In the back garden where I'm staying there are deep scarlet ones which smell like grapefruit and peach. Also, the yellowy/orange ones have a similar scent. The pink smell like classic rose. And the white...wow - they have petals like paper - hundreds of them - and smell like grace and bright and sweet apples. Have you ever tried drinking out of a rose after it's rained? It's delicious.

@hollyhoneychurch I love how you described that. :) :) To be surrounded by color and scent - a parade of them - it sounds wonderful. I love the gardens in England, even though I was only there for a few weeks over thirty years ago. And I definitely will stop and sniff (perhaps surreptitiously) wherever I can. A scented garden really is heaven. It's funny how the white roses always have the strongest scent - it's like they put all their energy into the scent and have nothing left for color. :)
