@hjertnes I’m always buying cameras in my head! 😅 A few months ago I was really considering buying this one but then I got discouraged, it’s kind of expensive. But every now and then I’m like “maybe I should do it and go full frame”
@Gabz full frame has some advantages, but it is also more expensive, bigger heavier and the same goes for the lenses you use. I’m so happy I went away from all of that and got a Fuji instead
@hjertnes very true! This was the reason I went for a micro four third system. Compact, portable and less expensive
@Gabz Fuji isn't less expensive - really. But it is smaller, and they focus on different types of cameras than the bigger players. And I love how much they focus on cameras that are awesome to use, with physical buttons instead of touch screens. But my favourite thing is that their jpegs are so good I don't have to deal with RAW files.
@Gabz I shoot with a X-Pro 2, I have a 23mm f2, 35mm f2, 50mm f2, and a 8mm fisheye lens. I use the 23mm (similar to a 35mm on fullframe) most of the time.
I have the f2 instead of the faster lenses because they're smaller, lighter and focus much faster.
@Gabz Similar. The thing that got me into Fuji was the fact that they like old school analog cameras had dedicated dials for shutter speed, aperture (on the lens) and ISO.
@Gabz @hjertnes isn’t the X-pro 3 out now too? I used to shoot Olympus OM-D but I switched to a fuji x100t and never looked back. I still have my Olympus (and the 12-40 pro lens is amazing) but even in situations where I should shoot the Olympus, I choose the fuji. The shooting experience is so much better IMO.
@Gabz I'm squarely in the Fuji camp as well. Like @hjertnes, it's the handling and "real" controls that set them apart for me. I tested a full-frame Sony and, while very nice, it felt like using a computer not a camera. I liked the Olympus I had much better. A friend has the new full-frame mirrorless from Nikon and really likes it. I keep hearing that "real cameras are doomed," and maybe that's true, but right now there are a ton of great choices.
@ChrisJWilson The X-Pro 3 is out, I think. At least announced. But I guess it will take a long time before they’ll be in stock.
@hjertnes They previewed it last month with plans to announce it formally in less than 2 weeks, I think. While I think most people will cease to own cameras apart from their phones, I think lots of people will still be interested in interchangeable lens photography, simply because of the creative options availalble. And it's fun to buy and use gear!
@ChrisJWilson @hjertnes thays what i have been shooting with all these years, I first had and Olympus OMD EM10, now I have the same but markiii. And I got a 25mm, 45 and 75. But in most situations the 25mm is the better fit, which makes wonder if I really want to keep the other two around.
@jack I really enjoy my Oly OMD EM10 Markiii but I do find myself wanting something in the full créame realm and as much as I love my prime lenses sometimes I find myself either using the same lense out of the three I got because is the most versatile or wishing I had something with a fair focal range. And I do think a lot about the EOS but then I think, the first reason I got into the Olympus M43 was that it was compact (and looked kinda vintage) lenses are much smaller and cheaper. Another camera 📷 that I have been looking in the past year but they’re damn expensive is the Leicas.
@Gabz @ChrisJWilson @hjertnes Any of y'all shoot sports of any sort with your 4/3 setups? I've been considering a new camera system; my old Canon Digital Rebel XT can't keep up with the hockey action my oldest is engaged in. Since I'm looking at a whole new body to start, I'm not wedded to staying with Canon EOS. Due to the more compact nature and lighter weight, I'd prefer a 4/3 system, but it and the lens need to be able to capture at speed. Thoughts? Thanks!
@retrophisch I personally don’t, I’m more of a street photographer-ish. The closest thing I ever shot to sports was my 3-year-old running around and I was able to get really good pictures using the 75mm (I think that’s somewhere around 150mm in full frame, I think.) on an Olympus body , the Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III. I have seen review videos of people using this lens, which I own but have rarely used it, to shot car races. And they say it performs well?
@retrophisch The main issue with the OM-D is the noise at higher ISOs which can be difficult with fast moving subjects in lower light. Plus I believe the auto-focus wasn't so great on the earler models. However, I believe the newer models have very good auto-focus and I can see the deeper depth of field perhaps being an advantage if you don't nail the focus. PLUS if you adapt other lenses, they are in effect 2 as long. So maybe it's a good choice, but I honestly. don't know. Perhaps you could rent/borrow a lens and body? That's always a good way to check if you want to spend the cash.
@retrophisch I don’t know anything about shooting sports, but I’d probably start by researching good setups for sports shooting
