Before the freak-out about em-dashes in AI-generated text I didn’t even know how to produce one. I’d just copy and paste them as needed. But since the Great Em-dash Emergency, I learned it’s quite easy, so now I use them more, not less. Anyone else own up to this experience? Is it proof we’re bots?
@writingslowly I’m a huge fan of the Em Dash. Especially a fan of how easy it is to type the Em-dash, ellipsis, and accented letters on the Apple keyboards. I think a certain type of person, myself included, loves uses appropriate typographic characters. I’m very much not a bot, but I can understand how someone not used to seeing those things could make an inference.
On Windows I pin Charmap.exe to my Taskbar, though I have memorized a few character sequences that use the left alt-key and the number pad.
