I’ve often wondered if it was a generational thing or a me thing. I prefer text on the internet. I enjoy podcasts and TikTok and YouTube and any number of now-streaming mediums. But when I want an answer to a question, I want to read it, and I want to find supporting texts. [elder GenX]

@maique @hjalm Yep, same here. Reading helps my brain to continue working at a rate and level of quality that watching and listening cannot match.

@hjalm Can relate. Nothing worse than 15min introductory videos. Worst problem here to me: There's no plausible search and no good way to quickly "browse" across these kinds of media while briefly navigating long texts for clues on where to dig deeper seems sort of doable.

@hjalm same! (I’m right on the genx/millennial line according to the internet.)

@hjalm

100%

No clue if it's generational, but I can assure you it isn't just you!

PS - I'm on the young end of GenX.

@SimonWoods This is a big concern for me, too. It’s the knowledge that my attention is not long. Information density helps sustain it.

@Ddanielson Growing up with audio and visual media being very expensive to produce and to acquire, I had to wonder if that was part of it

@z428 Exactly! Where there’s a transcript, I’m golden! If not, I’m probably researching who is in the video to infer what the content might be.

@hjalm Agreed! And preferably on an elegantly designed website without ads, cookie notices, or pop ups asking for my email address.
