@herself That blot system looks neat!

@vasta @burk @bruce Hehe! I think I may have accidentally cross-posted there! Whoops! (Hm... did I? Gawd!)

Struggling a little bit with changes I make using the UI suddenly resetting themselves, which is frustrating, as I am not a CSS person.

@herself This is my "blot" in any case... very much still a work in progress as it will probably take me forever to get everything how I'd like it :)

@herself Nice! Re: taking forever; as long as you are having fun! 😃

@Burk True! I fear I'm an endless tinkerer though. At least wordpress was "set and forget" :P

@vasta @burk @bruce Just a quick question you guys (seeing as you have joined in this blot conversation :)): I've noticed that my blot posts are appearing here on the micro.blog feed / my timeline, but if I navigate to the actual site those posts don't appear... do I need to pay for a cross-posting bot in addition to hosting?

@herself I could be wrong, but I think the hosted blog is equivalent to you new blot blog. When you use the Micro.blog apps (web, iOS, etc), what's happening is it's sending your post to one or the other and then the blog that receives it syndicates it back to the Micro.blog timeline. In effect the hosted blog and the timeline are two different services provided by Micro.blog. The first is a traditional blog that is the source of truth for your posts and the second is a "social" network that allows for discussion of those posts. So I don't think it's possible to send posts to both blogs at once as you would be creating duplicate websites. The syndication to the Micro.blog timeline is free; the cross-posting bot is for sending the posts to Twitter and Facebook. //@manton @smokey Am I understanding this at all correctly?

@herself For example, I have multiple hosted websites. One for links, one for photos, and one for short thoughts. When I post, I choose one of them, depending on the content. The post then ends up on only that blog, but no matter which blog I post to, the post is sent to the timeline. The only way to tell the difference would be to click on the timestamp. If I went over 280 characters or used a title, the timeline would generate a link back to the specific website as well. //@manton @smokey

@herself That said, you could choose to mirror the sites. You would just have to send the same post twice, once to blot, once to the micro.blog hosted site. I think you'd have duplicate posts arriving in the timeline though.

There might also be a way using RSS or IFTTT to duplicate the posts without doubling up on the timeline. Not sure how that would work though.

Hope that all helps! :)

@Bruce Hi Bruce! Finally got a chance to have a proper read of your posts/comments. Thanks again. So the micro.blog is the blog and the "conversation" side is the aggregate that everything points to? I think I see :)

I think I had things turned-around in my head, thinking that the blog would also display the cross-posts.

I guess the next step is to look at how the feeds work and whether I want to try and unite them, and how. @cn's tutorial looks to do this but I need to have a proper uninterrupted read of that next :)

@herself The replies on Micro.blog do get sent to the original post as Webmentions. The hosted blogs don't support it yet. WordPress does. Not sure about blot.

I'm actually thinking of making a diagram to help explain things. 🙃
