Current daily carry ✒️
@seishonagon From bottom to top - faber castell ondoro, lamy 2000, opus88 koloro. All nibs are EF. I can't even remember which inks I have in them though. ✒
@seishonagon The opus might be my current favorite. I love the mix of materials - ebonite with acrylic. And it's an eyedropper - holds a lot of ink. ✒
@herself they are solid pens. No issues with starts or skips. And i feel like they are priced reasonably. Also i just realized. New Zealand. You're the the future!! How did Sunday turn out. It's still Saturday night hear. Geez you're practically a full day ahead i
@d0gc0w I think you'll find Sunday is pretty good. Weather not too bad, plus it's always good getting the grocery shopping done for the week too. ;)
Thanks! I'll check out those pens. Not like I need more pens, but...you know.
@d0gc0w orange, of course! Contemplated blue/tan but the tan could have been boring-tan instead of earthy-tan. 👍
@herself peak pen?! Gasp! A myth. A legend. A unicorn even... There's no such thing as PEAK PEN. Gah. Your time traveling ways have warped your sense
@d0gc0w Niiiiice... My hand started that familiar itch to buy the thing. Then I thought about all the pretty fountain pens I bought... and eventually misplaced. So I started keeping them packed away in drawers to keep from losing those precious things. Then I realized the whole point of enjoying them is to write with them... But I'd still lose them and it'd get expensive... Argh. I compromised by buying a box of cheap Pilot Varsity fountain pens which I'm not afraid to lose and yet it still provides a really nice writing experience (esp. for what's essentially a $1 pen!). For the really special occasions I'll trot out the fancy pens (likely duct taped to my hand to prevent accidental loss).
@solari I reckon those are the best pens - the cheap ones that aren't shitty that you use every day.
Ayup, @herself! They're actually surprisingly pleasant to write with with the added bonus of not making as much of a mess since it's not like I have a writing desk inside my tiny camper. ; ) P.S. Replying to a "herself" had me momentarily wondering if I was writing to an alter-self-ego ala myself.
@solari sorry about that! 😜 The handle was from an old (now long-gone) email domain I once had. I've carried it around ever since. Someone else "out there" uses it too, so occasionally I am herselfnz.
@herself Yes, the woods, the desert, the ocean, and so forth - am a wanderer so I go wherever the wind takes me. The longest I've stayed in one place is around two weeks. It's pure joy!
@herself i did finally cut myself off on notebooks a few years ago. My search for THE notebook ended with the traveler's notebook. I've carried it daily for over three years now i think. And refuse to buy any other.
@solari yeah I've lost a couple of nice ones myself. But i guess that's the deal. Haven't lost one in awhile tho.
@solari fantastic. We are pretty stuck in one place with a little one just starting school, but it's just another phase of life, I guess! Plenty of time for more rambling in the future, I hope!
@d0gc0w I've heard amazing things about those. They always seem to be sold out whenever I'm looking though! (Probably just as well, hah.)
@d0gc0w @seishonagon i remember owning a Faber Castell back in the day … when it was called a 'slide-rule’

“What's a slide-rule daddy?”

🤣
@herself You know there are lots of fauxdoris on the market. Several makers have stepped up to make more variations and options for customization. I have a nice forest green one with a stiffer binding with brass tacks. Super nice. // @jeremycherfas
@JohnPhilpin I am not quite old enough to have used them in school, but I did manage to pick up a couple of used ones years ago and learn to use them just because. I love them conceptually. Imagine using books of tables and a slide rule for an exam or a design problem.
@JohnPhilpin I remember one of my profs sharing a story around the turn. He was administrering a test that he was pretty sure someone could do in the alotted time with a slide rule. Some joker walked in with a calc and walked out in 10 minutes. done.
@JohnPhilpin I used to have a book of log tables somewhere... I think. But i've lost it at this point.
@herself Yaaas! If you have the dream and drive, you'll get there. I just happen to be ahead of you with my little one now in college so I'm a freeeee man. ; )
@d0gc0w I have eyes those for a while but they are expensive in Italy. I have a Midori leather cover for my Field Notes.
@d0gc0w try explaining what they are to students. “You mean they didn’t have calculators back then? So lame!”
@d0gc0w ok - phew .. thankyou ... what if it is not a fountain pen I want - but more a good writing implement ? or does the latter automatically imply the former?
@JohnPhilpin it depends on what kind of paper you'll be writing on. Give me some deets on your sitch and I'll make suggestions.
@d0gc0w aah ... well that is open ended ... hence : john.philpin.com/2018/02/2... .. so advice on that also good 😎
