Frank Ferera, Born in Honolulu: June 12, 1885 of Portuguese ancestry. Of all Hawaiian recordings made between 1915 and 1930, it is said that Frank Ferera appeared on at least a 1/4 of them. Some of the estimated 2,000 discs he cut remain available on Hawaiian CD compilations to this day. Amazing

@Miraz I am and its a lot fun. In Hawaiian music you can trace the same song written the late 1800s right through to today and still being recorded and performed

@Miraz I bet someone with Māori heritage could do similar. I do think Hawaiian evolved more do to more western influences

@hawaiiboy I don’t know anything much about music in general, let alone Māori music, but Māori musicians do seem very active and creative at the moment, blending traditional with modern trends.

Talking Maori Music - a 🔗📼 personal favourite (Band and video)

Tradition accelerated into the 21st century.

Warning - it’s not ‘your dad’s Maori music - but I believe very relevant.

They are bigger in Europe than here.

They are called ‘Alien Weaponry’.

@hawaiiboy it is cool … the closest I’ve come to modern interpretation of traditional Hawaiian music is on Maui … Kanekoa - Not Alien Weaponry - BUT still different to the tradition - but tightly holding to the legacy.

They do short tours in California - so pushing out.
