' We need to have an adult conversation about what is likely after the election. Because these [violent right-wing groups] have worked themselves into such a powerful frenzy, I don’t see them being able to just walk away from it if they lose. And they certainly won’t walk away from it if they win.

They’re almost certainly going to engage in violence, and I think there’s going to be a lot of people hurt. '

@sarahc I’m still very concerned about well placed voter suppression. They may even do things specifically on Election Day to scare people away.

@sarahc I’ve been thinking this for a while. These folks are itchy, and it seems like they’re going to find an excuse regardless of how the election turns out. People have been stoking their anger for too long. We need to be ready.

@sarahc

In the 50s & 60s, there was an abundance of hatreds and a push/popularity of violence and political discontent, minorities galore had to fight for rights and to be heard. It worked.

The 'losers' of those fights faded into small time actions and groups but lost a lot of their steam.

While there is potential that they (right wing nutjobs) may do a number of heinous things that require collective action ahead, they may also fade away into disgruntled sullen pouting losers again who think they're infringed upon because it's harder to kick down, but don't feel accepted by the mainstream while they cling to their awful 'principles'.

Anyone who professes they are certain how things are go isn't worth trust. No one knows what will happen. Stoking fear about 'almost certainly' anything is just more fear stoking.

Considering the potential for an array of outcomes, and what history has taught can help, but there are no guarantees.

That's my 'adult conversation' on the matter.

@CoastalCoasting No, the people who 'lost' when the US adopted more egalitarian policies on race, gender, and other issues hunkered down, licked their wounds, and the methodically built a grouping of right-wing and fundamentalist movements that are now just one election away from being able to turn the country into an authoritarian dictatorship. These groups have proven themselves capable of political violence numerous times. As a historian, I'd suggest you study our country's recent history.
