I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about Vivaldi and Zen browsers. What are you using on macOS and iOS? I’ve been 100% Safari for a long time, but open to exploring options.

@Mtt I’m all in on Safari on my Macs, as well. For my Linux machines and single Windows 10 install I use Firefox. I left Chrome for Edge for a while, but that was when Edge was its own engine, but went back to Edge when it took all the Google junk out of Chrome and it felt fresh, but left again because they filled it back up. Made the hard switch to Firefox then.

But now Mozilla has changed their TOS and people are up in arms. Not sure what I’ll do outside of macOS at this point. mjtsai.com/blog/2025…

@Mtt I use Vivaldi on my iPad to stay logged into Microblog and Bluesky. I also use it for Youtube because, for the moment at least, it defeats YouTube ada.

@Mtt I started using Arc on macOS shortly after it debuted. Considering moving to Zen which feels quite similar.

@gdp I need to give it a true trial run. Anything specific put it over the top for you?

@hall For Orion, are you paying? Using Kagi too?

@markstoneman StoptheMadness is the app you want for Safari to handle that. Both iOS and macOS.

@cjhubbs I did give Arc a trial run a while back. I didn’t dislike it by any means, but they were forcing AI in places I didn’t like at that time.

@Mtt ARC Browser on Mac. Mobile Safari elsewhere.

@Mtt Sorry! I realized after I wrote it the whole thing was a tad disjointed. I think the gist is clear, though. The only thing I miss from using Safari is having a unified experience, plugins, bookmarks, etc. across all devices, regardless of platform. Then again, Apple Passwords is phenomenal.

@Mtt Oh, and I’m also testing Zen. We’ll see. These things do take time :D

@tylerknowsnothing Apple Passwords is critical for me too. I enjoy the other things syncing but I think I could live without if I found a reason to switch.

@Mtt Not paying at the moment, trial running it first, but feel I should soon if I continue as I do like it. Paying for Kagi as well seems a bit steep to run a browser, trying to figure if Kagi on Safari would be best. Maybe they’ll bundle it soon.

@matt I’m bouncing between Vivaldi and Zen. Vivaldi has lots of features I don’t use but is solid. Zen is basically a clone of Arc but with the Gecko engine.

@Mtt I misspoke about Vivaldi. I meant Brave. It actually handles YouTube for me better than StopTheMadness.

@hall Yeah, I’ve been an on again, off again Kagi user. Can’t decide if going all in with Orion + Kagi is the right call or not.

@matt I use Firefox on all my devices. If you pay for Kagi, Orion is also turning out to be a good option.

@matt I strongly prefer the UI for Arc, but I do not trust The Browser Company at all anymore. I’ve found Safari to be reasonable-ish, and I use Vivaldi for my Chromium needs (and I trust the Vivaldi team more than anyone, despite not liking their UI so much).

I’m curious about Zen though.

@Mtt Been using Zen for a few months now, it is very rare I launch another browser on macOS. As for iOS, I’m using Orion but ocassionally have to swap back into Safari when something doesn’t work right.

@Mtt I’m not averse to paying for a browser - I’ve paid for iCab long ago and still use it occasionally - although Alexander has dropped our GeoTag integration 😞

@Mtt I’m using Vivaldi on all devices except for my Fedora Machine where I am testing Zen. I like Zen a lot. Just not sure I am fully ready to commit to it.
