We recently had a fully functioning grandfather clock (weight-driven) passed to us and I’m in love. We already have a couple of mantle clocks (spring-driven), and I wear an automatic watch daily. There’s just something I love about the engineering and analog of it all.

@Mtt My wife and I inherited a Howard Miller just like this one when her father passed away. Sadly (or gladly), we had to pass it on to my older son when we bought a smaller place. They are works of art and definitely heirlooms if maintained well.

@jimmitchell I’ve always wanted one, but well maintained ones are rare and expensive.

@Mtt True that. The one we passed on didn’t count as “well maintained” by any means, having been moved from one house to another at least 25 times in its life. But once I got my hands on it, I was able to bring it back to “not too badly maintained.” 🤣 Congrats on you acquisition.

@Mtt Holy cow, you got a really exceptional one too! A moon phase, actual layered metalwork for everything, and a beautifully carved case as well. Congratulations.
