(Can’t currently post from my blog so I’ll use this thread in the meantime.)

The way copy and paste continuously breaks on iA Writer for iPad is super fun.

Also, beyond the well established problems with gesture-based navigation on the iPad there is the issue that cursor support is generally terrible. It’s flaky, unpredictable, and bad in all the ways Mac people like to make fun of the alternatives for being.

Overall, I can’t wait to not just get a computer but outright dump this iPad, and can’t imagine advocating for it as a laptop replacement for all but the people who have enough money to justify buying it and then barely using it.

Whilst I’m complaining: streaming music. What a load of crap. Maybe it’s ok for people who kinda like music or mostly treat it as background noise, but for somebody like me there is no good option; it’s like digital assistants, in that even the best option is nowhere near as good as anybody should expect. I cannot wait to get a computer and get back to managing my music library, including getting the relevant software to support it (in other words: nothing from any of the big companies).

@greghiggins It’s as if the relentless nature of the gadget release cycle does strange things to our perception of time. 🤯

@simonwoods This is true. Someone asked me the other day which iPad I have. I had to think about it for a second and then couldn’t believe it’s 3 years old already.
