What’s it with the UX of the apps on Android? They just don’t look clean, finished. Is it a limitation of the platform? Or the complexity of the SDK? Or it is simply the misguided belief that design is not really important for users of an open” platform?

@amit I believe iOS developers tend to follow at least the spirit of Apple having taste (which I don't think is necessarily true, at least not with the software at this point), and whilst there are some good things on Android in this way the fundamental problem remains; there is no tastemaker, no singular point of focus from which developers can draw any real guidance.

@simonwoods Yeah, I guess that must be the case. Because there are apps which are really well designed -- so it must be possible. I thought it must also be comparatively a lot more difficult with Android to get a clean interfaces designed. I think I will try and play around with the SDK, get something built.

@amit I also think it's the latter (culture, not tech). I’m happy in Apple's walled garden, but would love to see more developers who care about design experimenting in Android. For the good of the people.

@gerwitz @amit I agree but I'm also frustrated with Apple. There are limitations that make parts of the garden feel rotten, with the potential to decay, and the worst part is that there doesn't appear to be a good reason for this to be happening.
