I’m not sure that Americans appreciate just how pathological and toxic it is to require people to unconditionally love their nation.
@baldur True, but it’s not just Americans who fail to appreciate this. I’ve attracted some very funny looks in Ireland when I’ve insisted that I’m not a patriot 😎
@artkavanagh @baldur I agree that it’s painful. On Australian commercial television particularly, such toxic, nationalistic behaviour takes the form of calling people ‘un-Australian’. I avoid such commentators and their content.
