No Smartphone In 2020: tmo.micro.blog
@tmo good luck! I'm really interested in this and have been considering the Punkt MP02 phone. A couple questions, if you're willing: * Did you find a way to disable Safari? I've been looking for a way to do that but not seen any elegant solutions * What'd you decide for "transit" considerations?
@JMaxB @tmo shouldn't be in this case, since still on iOS. This is usually more about registering with the networks. For example, here's the warning on the Punkt MP02 in the USA
Using the MP02 in the USA Please note that the MP02 version's compatibility with mobile service providers is as follows. AT&T, Cricket: compatible, including VoLTE T-Mobile: compatible, but without VoLTE Verizon: not compatible
@toddgrotenhuis I have not found a way to disable Safari, but I only have to let it sit there (unused) for a couple more weeks when I get the Nokia 3310 phone. And as far as transit, I can get around pretty well in St Louis without G Maps or anything, but when I am in a car, I am never the driver (I don't drive). It is up to the driver to provide directions. And thank you! :)
@joshuapsteele deleted as much as I can, but then simply ignoring Safari, etc. until I buy a Nokia 3310 unit in late December :)
@toddgrotenhuis @joshuapsteele
Screen Time -> Content and Privacy Restrictions -> Allowed Apps -> Disable Safari.
I do this for Mail and Safari, and have a friend set a passcode for Screen Time so that I can't add them back.
@JMaxB Networks are shutting down their non-LTE networks (1x, 3G, CDMA); Verizon’s go offline on Dec 31, and Sprint apparently stopped activating non-LTE/VoLTE phones this spring, which is the first step to turning off service. Perhaps that’s what you heard about? Certainly older dumb phones wouldn’t have supported LTE. // @tmo @toddgrotenhuis
