As MLB added rounds of interminable playoff baseball (to rake in more dough) they should have been starting the season a week earlier for each added round, so the WS could still be the Fall Classic, instead of nighttime freeze outs for the loyal fans. NFL is for cold weather! ⚾️
@Ron I think the season this year started four days earlier, but the purpose was to provide more off days at the beginning of the season to accommodate postponements due to weather. What they really need to do is to decrease the number of regular season games, but that leaves money on the table and that isn't going to happen. I think the inclusion of the wild card and divisional series has been good as it has increased the number of teams playing meaningful games in September.
@frankm I would certainly be in favor of eliminating some regular season games. But as you point out, all decisions are based upon money, money, money. And why no day games on the weekend during the WS? Well they don't want to conflict with football games and expose differences in the ratings for the two sports. But I think the hard & fast rule should be that baseball is NOT played during the football season. Baseball should only be played during baseball season. Only greed has pushed them far into the football season. Shame on them.
