The purpose of Mueller’s investigation is to collect evidence and information for the House, which is the prosecuting attorney in an impeachment. The inquiry is the work of determining whether to bring charges by voting for articles if impeachment. To not at least open an inquiry is to nullify even doing the investigation and it prevents us from even having a chance at closure. More fundamentally, it tells Trump and future people like him they can get away with nearly anything because political threat will always win. It cements the presidency as being above the law.
