@frankm re

It was news media that polarized the nation into camps of red v. blue, white v. black, 1 percent v. 99 percent long before Facebook was born.

Not saying it’s facebook’s fault but the 1% emerged AFTER fb was born

... and I think it is good to highlight that - because it is a problem

Meanwhile I think the white v black issue is in America’s dna - doesn’t take the media to amplify that one.

The red versus blue ... yes - with you ... remember when the reds were the ‘enemy’ ... the communists ... in the UK our colors of red to the left, blues to the right made a lot more sense in that light / and now we have the ‘pubs in thrall to Russia in the US ... finally makes sense here aswell - and that old adage finally comes home to roost

What’s the difference between fascism and communism?

“Fascism is the exploitation of ‘man by man’ .... Communism is the other way round.”

@JohnPhilpin I think the distribution of wealth and the existence of the 1% pre-dates Facebook. It was developing rebustly in the 90s and my feeling is that it began in earnest with the deregulation crazy of the Reagan years.

@frankm the facts definitely predate FB ... but surely the term and the ‘awakening’ of people in general can be pinpointed to the Occupy movement?
