I’m 43 and just now feel like I have enough PTO to stay somewhat sane, yet enough responsibility to feel guilty using it.

@bryan Giving other people a chance to step up and cover for you can help them grow. A good coverage plan is key. I document who is covering what, and what I expect them to do. I also set scheduled Slack reminders to remind them in a timely way. People have so far appreciated that - they still have their own jobs to do, and my tasks might not be top of mind. I just took a 3 week trip in April, and my plan had 14 different people doing things. It worked.

@TracyTThomas thanks for the thoughts and tips. There’s not anyone who can cover me, but I think there are things I can do to lessen the blow upon return, particularly setting expectations and communicating better.

@bryan It’s so important to disconnect. If you’re in a leadership role, doing so sets a good example.

@bryan I used to struggle with that but what I have been doing is: take 1 day every week for a month so it gives me an extra day off and still keep me on the loop. Might be worth a try
