Boox Go Color 7: ericgregorich.micro.blog
@ericgregorich I’m a big fan of my Boox Palma. Love that I can just download Android apps
@cooperbike I tried the original Palma when it came out. I did like it, but decided it was too small. I hesitated to return it, but I did. I think the Boox Go 7 is just the right size. Portable and comfortable.
@ericgregorich I love the small phone size. Pocketable. But I am not tempted to add once of the larger coloured devices to the arsenal. But I’m trying to practice mindful consumerism.
@ericgregorich I picked up the Go 10.3 last year. It’s OK, but I find the lack of backlighting and the screen ghosting annoying enough that I don’t often reach for it. I’ve been thinking of selling it and trying the Color 7 instead.
@wldunbar I couldn’t use it without a backlight.
Screen ghosting is noticeable and is my biggest grip with the Boox device. It’s more noticeable when using busy pages, like an RSS feed, or graphic novel. I don’t find it a problem when reading text.
At least the device gives you options to deal with ghosting. For each app, you need to find a balance. Either more ghosting and less screen flickering, or more less ghosting and more screen flickering.
@ericgregorich Thanks for sharing! It looks very nice — I’m definitely intrigued. Are you seeing software glitches? They seem to come up in the reviews on their site. And is the glass flush across the front, as in the screen isn’t sunken in and susceptible to collecting debris?
@jarrod I’m not seeing software “glitches” but I would say this device isn’t like a Kindle where it just works. You have to install apps, adjust app settings, and the default library and store seems pretty useless, unless you have your own content to use. It runs Android.
The screen is slightly embedded. Maybe a millimeter or two.
