The Workflow app on iOS is simultaneously magical and maddening.

@eli I love using workflow, but I really dont't love working in it.

@alans this evening I was trying to write a workflow to handle some time tracking tasks...after about 45 minutes of running into the same wall over and over again I stepped away and wrote a simple API, deployed it, and then took another 15 minutes to write a workflow to push data to that API. BOOOM 🦑

@eli I wish I knew anything about how to use API. I don’t know a lick of code but apparently if you have an API it’s like having a magic hat to pull out whatever you want.

@JeffPerry worry not — I think the techy world writ large has done a good job hood-winking folks that programming, APIs, etc. are the stuff of wizardry and unicorn dreams, where only those trained in the dark arts, and initiated into blood magic are able to work with their mysterious powers. In reality a lot of it is wicked simple, just really really poorly documented.

@eli That may be, but until then I’m at the misery of others who have the abilities to fix my very specific and unique problems.

@JeffPerry …that was all to say, what are you looking to do? I'd be happy to try and lend a hand

@eli honestly I just want a good task management system for iOS. That’s my biggest issue. Nothing API specific.

@JeffPerry aaaaah, yeah — that is sort of the million dollar baby, ain't it?

@eli honestly if I had the time I’d learn how to code and build the app for me.

@JeffPerry @eli Or I need to back up and just use Taskpaper and simplify my task management to bare minimum.

@JeffPerry that is the direction I've gone in — I use Swiftodo for most of my day-to-day needs, and then have a few project-specific TaskPaper documents going for worky flavored things. //shoutout to @mjdescy for building the fabulous and amazing Swiftodo

@eli okay, this is cool. Bought it and it already exceeds my expectations. I’m gonna play with this a lot.

@eli Yeah, that sounds familiar. It's just not forgiving of iterative trial and error like I could do in a shell. When it works it's so cool, though!

@JeffPerry As good a reason to start learning as any.

@eli It sounds like it truly is the AppleScript of iOS ;-) (I say this with love, as a devoted fan of AppleScript.)
