What is the oldest podcast you are still listening to? I think I started with Critical Path by Asymco back in the day and started listening to Core Intuition at around the same time (and still listening to latter). It must be over a decade already?

@tkoola CoreInt. Started listening in 2010, iirc.

@odd I probably started late 2011

@tkoola The Talk Show, back in 2015. Second podcast I subscribed to. I’ve stopped listening to Planet Money, which was the first.

@tkoola Until I got the iPhone 4 in the fall of 2011, I used to download episodes to my iPod classic. The first podcast I started listening to was Kommisjonen, a Norwegian comedy show, (now Misjonen, “The Mission”). But I don’t follow it anymore.

@tkoola Probably Quirks and Quarks. Must be well over a decade now, maybe even 15+ years.

@odd amazing how much the world has changed in just over a decade.

@inthedeltawaves Yes! iPhone 4 was my first iPhone. Before that, I had a HTC Desire (Android 2.2), and before that two different HTC’s with Windows CE, or Windows Mobile (or something). When I got the 4, I was very impressed. My dad had his 4 until a year ago, and now it was painful to use, especially compared to newer ones.

@tkoola great question! For me it’s Filmspotting - must have been listening for over 15 years because I started when it was still the original hosts

@mroutley @miraz interesting, this one was a completely new acquaintance to me. It is a great feeling to find a great podcast you have a long back catalogue to go through

@lmika was it the 5by5 show or the solo one? Yes, that is still on my list as well, even if I don’t listen to it every week anymore. For some reason I’ve also stopped following Planet Money. I wonder what changed

@odd i think my first iPhone was 5 and that explains why I started later. I do remember using iPod and syncing some podcasts to it but I’ve already forgotten what they might have been

@tkoola Click back in 2005. To me it was the most innovative podcast at the time.

@tkoola I see. I got my first mp3 player in 2005, (not Apple), and I vaguely recall that I downloaded some mp3 files from the net, being of a radio program (so maybe not technically a podcast), but this was prior to 2008, but that was my first experience with this format/way of listening.

@odd do you remember what the first mp3 was that you purchaed? mine was “Centipede” by Rebbie Jackson. No lie!

@tkoola It was the solo one. I missed the whole 5by5 period unfortunately (although I do go hunting old episodes of Hypercritical). Not sure I can say why I stopped listening to Planet Money. Nothing bad on their end, I just lost interest.

@UndamnedOne No, I’ve long forgotten about it, I’m afraid. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard that song before, but it started very 80s-y and fresh! I saved it to listen to it later. 😃

@odd that was pretty close to my path too. A super expensive to use Ericcson was my first phone in 1999, then Nokia, mostly LG flip phones in the early 00s. My first smart phone was a Blackberry, then an Android, then the 4s. They were all pretty painful back then, but the integration of my music and podcasts with iTunes was pretty game changing.

@inthedeltawaves A Ericsson was my first ever mobile phone too! It was a big brick of a phone. I got it back in 1992, then I just had Nokia’s until the ones I wrote about earlier. I think my favorite phone was the HTC Desire, but the specs of it didn’t last me very long, sadly. 📱

@tkoola Fresh Air and This American Life, if you count radio programs also available as podcasts. Those go back to the 1980s IIRC.

Heck, if you’re going to count radio-as-podcasts—I used to listen to old-time-radio and been thinking of picking it up again. That would mean I’m listening to podcasts dating back to the 1940s!

If you want to count only native podcasts, I think the oldest one I’m currently listening to is Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History, launched 2006.
