Today was the first time I’ve ever heard this quote, and it’s sticking with me. It’s quite practical advice! (Origins are apparently unclear.)

@jarrod Very true. I think it's directly applicable to hiking, an activity that I do quite often in both modes. To me, "far" means also "deep", that is, knowing the people you're traveling with much better than in any other context.
