To a Duke English major from the 80s, deconstruction refers to literary theory. And, I have a negative view of most literary theory. So, for me, it might be the enemy. But, I doubt that is the kind of deconstruction you are referring to. If you are referring to literary theory, you are extra hip and cool for a minister.
@amyedge haha! That was how I always thought about it, in connection with Derrida and his silliness. But, yeah, the contemporary world uses it in connection to re-evaluating one’s beliefs. This used to be known as “the dark night of the soul”.

I imagine there is a lot of pondering going on now. I left the Protestant church over AIDS and how people were treated. We saw it again during COVID. I ultimately found a home with the Unitarian Universalists. I have issues with them too, but at least they are trying. Jon Pavolvitz speaks at my Fellowship frequently. He draws a lot if lost Christians shocked by the cruelty in the name of Christ. I typically tell them they might like the UCC. I do like some of the modern thinkers

like Barbara Brown Taylor who take a broader view of God and the divine. I can easily see the Creator will looking at Denali or the face of a baby. I'm sure your flock benefits from your learned wisdom. I see a place for the mainstream churches. The non-denominational megachurches have long troubled me because there isn't a structure with a vetted theology. Even the UUs have an overall structure.
