Who is hosting their podcast here on Micro? What have you learned? What do you wish you knew when you started doing so? šŸŽ™ļø

@drose I have the same questions - I’ve been tempted to dip my toe in to rambling in to the microphone, but I’m slightly hesitant!

@mattharwood I have podcasted on and off for a while. I have used Anchor (now Creator for Spotify) in the past. But I love the idea of owning my content here.

I hope some of the Micro hosted podcasters will chime in!

@drose Oh sure, a couple that come to mind who posted just today: @bloftin2 and @lex. There’s also my Timetable podcast but sadly I haven’t posted in a while.

@manton thanks! Hey @blotfin2 and @lex, any insights for us aspiring micro blog podcasters?

@drose and @manton – I have been podcasting a long time. I have a long-running podcast about the Traveller tabletop RPG that I host on LibSyn, which I started way before I knew about micro.blog. On that podcast I do a bit more ā€œproduction.ā€

Here on micro.blog I do a couple of smaller, more informal ones. I do one on my bloftin2.blog skateboarding blog, and I do a tabletop RPG podcast – bloftin2RPG

My biggest takeway about the value of micro.blog as a podcasting platform is that when it is easy and convenient to do a show, I do more shows. Manton has made it very very easy, combining the Wavelength app with micro.blog. For both of these podcasts I record from my car, during lunch. It’s nice, and quiet, and private. I have a Shure MV88 plug-in mic with a Lightning connect for my iPhone (discontinued!) I think it sounds amazing.

Today, in fact, I recorded a new podcast on bloftin2.blog.

You COULD do more production on a differnt phone app, but again, recording into Wavelength with an easy upload and publish makes it super easy. I sometimes then go back into my job and edit the post for that episode with some show notes, but not usually.

There is nothing in particular I’d have done differently, because I have a long history in podcasting already. My goal with these was to make frequent personal podcasts.

Weirdly, LibSyn has not come out with and easy recording app, like Wavelength. I think this is dumb of them.

The WaveLength app also allows you to upload audio files from your phone’s ā€œFilesā€ app, which is cool.

Oh, I forgot - I do a podcast sometimes on my science fiction reading blog as well. Same idea. As long as I’m a Premium custom I might as well have 5 blogs, right?

@drose You are welcome. Really, @manton has created a platform that makes blogging super easy, podcasting super easy, keeping up with your reading super easy, etc etc etc. Yes, I am a total micro.blog cheerleader and evangelist. I spend my $10 a month and frankly it is the best value I get for $10 in a month.

@manton holy smokes, and just listened to a couple of @Lex’s episodes. That voice! I sound like Gilbert Gottfried in comparison.

@bloftin2 same! I tell everyone. I love everything about this platform. I am preparing to get going with podcasting here and now video too.

@manton has built the best content creation platform I have ever experienced.

@drose It is great to have a platform that is affordable and doesn’t try to put advertising for boner pills, razors, or gun holsters on your site. Eventually I may cancel my pay Vimeo account ($9 a month) and move all that stuff over here.
