@toddgrotenhuis thanks for sharing this! One of my friends from grad school hails from the Stone-Campbell movement. I wonder if the existential approach to Ash Wednesday can actually bring about a re-enchantment of Ash Wednesday, if it's coupled with the penitential orientation Beck describes. After all, have you really contemplated death (memento mori) if you haven't reflected on your own limitations (biological, existential, metaphysical, moral)?
