@vincentritter I just wrote my own thoughts in response to both Greg Morris and Gabz. Maybe micro.blog is the answer in that within this walled garden we can, at least, talk about hot button issue with measured reasoning.

@vincentritter It's one of the reasons I feel people here would be open to more debate and discussion as they seem to be cut differently to the average X user. I don't know, maybe it's just a feeling. Sad that politics is one of those topics that bring out the worst in some people.

@vincentritter While from one point of view I feel like agreeing and heavily nodding here, there's something else to it too: The last couple of years, especially the time on Mastodon, got me in touch with people I didn't simply notice before. This helped me a lot looking at what I would have considered "self-censorship" before as well. So, not sure whether we lost something in here - or whether we actually gained more awareness for the fact that whatever we say and whichever point of view we are about to make, we might insult some, but we also might hurt or trigger others who have a hard time dealing with this, a hard time not "seeing" or reading these things.

@vincentritter @alexink I think the world is becoming more 'touchy' about everything…

@vincentritter I think people are ‘offended’ because it demands attention, and it’s an attention economy now. You’re competing against the entire world for attention and a great way to get some is faux outrage

@gr36 And this will be the same anywhere these days. It's always best to err on the side of caution in any online setting these days, which makes a mockery of the words social media. There's very little about it that is social anymore. Though pockets still fight the good fight, like here.
