The Greens' Zoë Garbett takes the Hackney mayoralty form Labour in a convincing if not overwhelming win. Labour’s Caroline Woodley came second. I like Caroline Woodley, and thought she was a good mayor. But I understand this result. I hope the Labour party does too.

@mmetcalfe I’m not sure I do. From what my partner was hearing on the doorstep, the main reason for the swing to the Greens was, ‘Gaza’. Which, well… what the fuck has it got to do with the Mayor of Hackney? Or Hackney council?

@devilgate Thanks, that’s really interesting. What wards was your partner canvassing? I’d say “Gaza” is about belonging, like “immigration” is about belonging for Reform.
