It feels very strange to be supportive of the USA attacking a middle-eastern country (or any country). Even more so when it’s Trump in charge. But the chance this could bring down the Islamic Republic — that evil, terrorism-exporting, citizen-murdering regime — is much to be hoped for.

@devilgate I feel much the same. What I find most unnerving, though, is how so many Americans refuse — or more likely are now unable — to view this though a critical lens.

So many people just retreating to their political camps, even if those camps don’t neatly align with current events.

@devilgate Executing or kidnapping foreign leaders is terrorism. It’s not ok when when a foreign backed rebel group does it or when done directly by the state.

@llbbl I know, I know. And I agree. But like I said, it’s hard not to celebrate when a tyrant like that goes. And maybe it was a tactical mistake, as I’ve seen some analysis saying. But the chance of the Iranian people being free, you know?

@devilgate hubris. it’s a failure to see how projecting our way of life onto them may not actually be what is best for the people of Iran. it’s a world of difference between thinking wouldn’t be nice if they were free and actually being “free” like westerners.
