@macgenie Tempting! I’ve thought of doing Your Daily Duckling or something. But don’t want to overdose on cute. The treats are kale and lettuce from our veggie garden.
@hollyhoneychurch they do enjoy swimming. Just imagine how excited they’ll be once they are old enough to access the pond?! They’ll never want to come back inside (which is a worry).
@dejus Aww. Concerned dad when his chicks and ducklies go out on the town. They'll be free!
@hollyhoneychurch that’s the concern; the ducks will be free-range on the big pond, so may not choose to come back to the safety of the duck house. The chickens have a fenced run to keep them safe from predators, and have a roosting instinct to head indoors before it gets dark; the ducks will just have the water as a barrier from raccoons and such, and I gather may be happy to sleep outdoors. I’ll try to train them to come inside in the evening (via treats).
@dejus they like to sleep on banks don't they? hopefully they'll figure out where is safe. I like your idea of treat time when they return : )
@hollyhoneychurch I’m not sure where they’ll prefer. These are my first ducks. I’ve read that ducks often like sleeping on the water, though they might find some cozy place on the banks... if they can get out; the pond is surrounded by edging of rocks, which they might not be able to climb. I’ll just do what I can to encourage them to return to the duck house, and hope for the best.
