I am somewhat determined to get good at using an RPN calculator. You know, for fun?

@collin I want to do that too, if only so I can justify buying one of these

@collin Once you do, you'll never go back—and that's a good thing.

@jack I have my eye on their DM16.

@collin Nice. It's one of the few things I can't justify even to myself. Some day.

@pgor It seems like I just need to make myself stick to it enough that my brain clicks over?

@collin Yes, it takes a slight bit of practice. To me it’s worth it. I can’t stand to use a “normal” calculator any more.

@ronguest I’ve been playing with it in PCalc and it seems pretty natural once you know a couple of things.

@collin RPN is the natural way to use a calculator ... at least for me

@collin I learned with PCalc. Now I use Free42 and a DM42, which I highly recommend if you are willing to blow $200 on a calculator 😬. I use mine almost everyday...

@collin i switched to rpn a couple of years ago and will never go back. i do long calcs for work and rpn is sooo much faster and way more intuitive. i use the free42 app.

@collin there are some good rpn practice calcs on the web. once it clicks you’ll wonder how you did it any other way.

@collin I got hooked on RPN in computer science classes in the 70s. I haven't been able to use a calculator that has parentheses since.

@collin PCalc is my go-to on macOS and iOS. My go-to IRL calculator is the venerable HP 12-C. It works great and was superbly engineered. The batteries in the original design of this calculator last a decade or more.

@collin They are great fun. My HP 12-C financial calculator is probably 25 years old and going strong. Fourth battery, I think.

@ronguest I just pulled out my HP 12-C. Still works. I love the feel of those buttons.

@jack Oh dang, I wish I didn't click that link. That's gonna cost me. I wonder how the buttons feel?

@dougfredericks Not great but not horrible. My newish 12C is better. Ultimately it doesn’t get in the way; it is an incredibly useable calculator. The screen is particularly nice.
