It turns out the leader of the #GreenParty of 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 previous had an account on Mastodon (hello @ZackPolanski 👋 ) and so did Green MP for #Brighton Pav' (hello @sianberry 👋)

So I emailed the party to ask if they would consider moving away from #Twitter/X in light of recent events and reboot a Mastodon effort.

I shared links to mastodon.green and a set of UK-based instances, including toot.wales.

You too can email office@greenparty.org.uk to ask that they get an official #Mastodon account.

@matt Zack is winning Twitter with his l33t hipgnosis. Not sure Mastodon is ready?

@matt I wanted to talk about this in a post soon, but the accounts you linked are perfect examples for a bigger issue the Fediverse has - for some reason, probably varied reasons, it cannot keep its (more mainstream) users. Some organizations' accounts even post for years before they suddenly go dormant. Some people only ever post an introduction, then disappear. The question is, what can we do about it? And why does it happen?

@Radgryd I see those issues too. There are probably factors surrounding this that I am blind to, but I do think it's a numbers game.

Zack, for instance, has a large follower count on other networks:

150,000 on Twitter
500,000 on Insta
115,000 on Facebook
136,000 on TikTok
1,500 on Mastodon

Accounts like this are always just going to be where the people are. Having *yet another social network* to tend do it hard work for small coverage.

@Radgryd That said, I think organisations who have a Social Media Manager and are using tools like @bufferapp to schedule their posts have very little excuse.

From Buffer you can schedule your posts to post on multiple social networks at the same time, including on Mastodon.

But not everyone uses Buffer as part of their Social Media strategy, which I'm sure the team at Buffer would agree is part of the problem. 😅

@matt Yeah, the numbers game seems to be an issue. I wonder if the Fediverse will ever be able to tackle that in some way.

@matt @bufferapp I've used Buffer for @saveandraid :) It's very handy. For interactions though, you'd actually need to use the website/client/app.

@david Ah, but that is a bot that copy and pastes from Twitter. @ZackPolanski is an original account, owned by the man himself (I think).
