This is oversimplified of course, but it seems like there are two major types of people: one that wants to support rich people, because they think that is going to make them rich, and one that wants too support poor people, because they think everyone should be able to have a decent life.

@odd I always thought of it more that the one group supports rich people just in case they become rich.
