Earlier, I walked up the gravel road in the dark to get the mail. On the way, I stopped to chat with neighbor Kumar, who was setting up his telescope. With Jupiter visible in the clear sky, he let me look and I saw the giant planet with four of its moon. Amazing!

@antonzuiker It's a spectacular view! A neighbor that shows you Jupiter in a telescope is the best sort of neighbor! 😍

@Denny @antonzuiker my four year old is obsessed with the solar system and Jupiter in particular. He would love this!

@Denny Well put. I'm thankful for neighbors, and awed by the universe.

@davidmarsden go 4-yr-old astronomer in the making! In his holiday gift guide, Robin Sloan points to an inexpensive astronomy gift (monthly star calendar) that could be fun for your family.

@antonzuiker thanks, that looks amazing, although not sure it would work here in the UK?

We keep trying to see planets in our night sky at home (which we have definitely done in previous years), but this year we can't see anything at all. Maybe an increase in light pollution or just bad luck with timing.
