HBO Max has scored streaming rights to Studio Ghibli’s catalogue.

I own all of Miyazaki’s films on disc but there are still a few I haven’t seen. 📽

@davextreme I just saw that! I've made a note to step up my efforts to get the rest of them on disc in case this HBO Max deal turns out to somehow mean they won't be selling them on disc anymore either. (Seems unlikley but until I know one way or the other I'll keep scooping them up here and there).

@DrOct It's likely HBO won't show them exactly as I like, either. When I rip them, I use the Japanese video track, so all the titles and credits are in Japanese. This way I'm seeing exactly what Japanese audiences do, plus either sub or dub.

@davextreme Interesting. I hadn't even though to do that, though I have noticed that there are often two video tracks. I guess I haven't looked at them closely enough when ripping to realize that one is English and the other Japanese.

@davextreme Now I guess I'll have to go back and look at my rips and figure out which one I grabbed and which one I would prefer!

@davextreme Often I've found Blu-Rays have more than one video track but they're basically identical, so I've learned to basically ignore that issue and just pick one (usually the first one), spot check to make sure it's actually the movie and not something else, and then go from there. I'm usually not looking at the credits and such, just jumping around in the movie itself to be sure it's the main feature and going from there.

@davextreme checking a few via Plex, it looks like I did rip the English titles and credits, which is actually probably what I want anyway, personally. I'm also now remembering that I think MakeMKV lists the different titles as "Angle 1" and "Angle 2" or something like that, which makes sense.

@DrOct Sometimes they're like storyboard views that I don't ever really care about.

@davextreme yeah, that's why I do the basic spot check, but I dont' usually look too hard at them. I had some early in my ripping process that really did seem to have two identical copies, so I learned to just look for major differences (like storyboard stuff) and if I didn't see any just go with one.
