So, I’ve been using Spotify for a while now. One little problem I found is that, even as a paying customer, it won’t work over a VPN connection - something I often use. That’s a shame. Just hope that iOS 14 and the new macOS bring some better features to Apple Music.

@vincent As far as I can tell that’s the only thing missing for me. Was an Apple Music user for many years, but made the move and never looked back. All my friends use it, and only a couple were on Apple Music with me, the social aspect is really superior here. Just have to remember to turn off the Mullvad app!

@maique I think Spotify gets it right, especially with the way it deals with instantly working and remembering where you were - no matter the device. For me it’s not the social side as such, more the function of it all. (I don’t think I can even use the social aspect without an FB account anyway haha)

The Apple Music app just feels slow... although it’s much better integrated with the OS.

@vincent As far as social, I don’t have a Facebook account and can see what my friends are listening to. And agree with you regarding everything else: going from iPhone to MacBook to casting to TV to CarPlay without missing a step is great.

@vincent That’s an interesting Spotify restriction I wouldn’t think would exist. Especially since they’re a very international company, although that may not have anything to do with how VPNs work (I’m certainly no expert). I’ve always been an Apple Music user, so I’m curious to hear what better features you’d like to see from it.

@dandycat to be honest, since Apple Music is out I’ve been a user all along. But I have used Spotify now for a good month.

I think what would be awesome with Apple Music if the Mac app worked way faster. It takes ~ 20 - 30 seconds before anything seems ready to play.

And then I’d like to see better “handoff” support. So for example if I’m playing something on the Mac, I’d like to also see that on iOS and even the watch. And then when I finish and quit, that it knows what I played last.

Interestingly Spotify works on Android with the VPN...

@vincent Those are really well thought out and sensible requests for Apple Music. I think they echo a lot of what I'd like to see from it in the future, especially the better Handoff support. I can imagine a future where I can tell my phone to send the music to my Mac and it would do it immediately.

In fact, I'd love all my devices to be completely interconnected. It would be nice to be able to tell my phone to play a show on my Apple TV or my HomePod to play a podcast on my phone and it would just do it.

@dandycat FWIW You can, while listening to something on Apple Music, ask Siri to "play this on the TV" and it will switch the song over to your Apple TV.

@mcg Ooh, this is a fantastic tip! I guessed I missed that announcement or never thought to try it. I know what I’ll be doing a lot now. Thank you very much for this!

@dandycat Apparently it works for video content as well, but never tried that.
