I wish there was a federated, ActivityPub-based LiveJournal. I know there’s stuff like write.as (external link) but it’s not really what I’m envisioning. What I basically want is a blog, where I can make occasional friends-only posts (not private or password-protected posts), and take advantage of Activity... www.jayeless.net

@jayeless I am 100% with you on this one. I miss the friends-only posts of LiveJournal. I’m not willing to spend my time and focus on evaluating new tools or platform-hopping these days, so I wish Micro.blog would incorporate something like the new Notes feature to support this type of friends-only sharing.

@cygnoir Yeah, I think Micro.blog (with its blogging focus and ActivityPub integration) would be well-placed to introduce such a feature… if they wanted to. Like, one potential issue with a Fedi LiveJournal would be how long posts would display in the timelines of people using microblogging platforms (e.g. Mastodon client apps tend to mangle long-form posts with formatting). With Micro.blog now having “secret links” for shared notes, it seems like that might be a way forward (i.e. display as a post title + secret link)… but it depends how private you need your posts to be, I guess, because that approach is only security by obscurity. (Hope you don’t mind me thinking aloud here 😅)
