Beginning the process of booking an early 2021 Hawaii trip. Big island this time. Wish I could stay for months.

@Mtt Maui has been so quiet the last couple of months. Thousands (I don’t think that I am exaggerating) of rental cars parked up in fields around the airport. The big hotels on the south side are all closed, empty. Some stores are opening, but only getting a fraction of their usual custom, I’m sure.

This has all meant that the curve flattened along time ago here in Hawaii, but the economic hit has been big.

@crossingthethreshold Yeah, I can only imagine. We actually explored going sooner but with the mandatory quarantine and uncertainty for vacation rentals, we pushed back to February.

@Mtt I think that you are wise with timing. See how things pan out here in Hawaii. It looks like quarantine will be lifted at the end of July, but it keeps on being moved back - the State is lifting quarantine for inter-island flights on June 16. Then I'm sure there will be baby steps as visitors start coming back.

@crossingthethreshold i think HI will have to lift quarantine to rest of US very carefully - even state by state won’t work - there are currently 14 states with R>1 … which include Oregon and Washington, CA at .98 -

@JohnPhilpin I agree. The State has already pushed back when quarantine is going to be lifted to the end of July. Until a week or so ago it was the end of June. The State government want to make sure that as many procedures are in place to catch, test and track visitors, residents returning and if there is an increase in cases a way of tracking who has come into contact with who.
